5 April 2017 World TB Day 2017:Launch of “Beat TB Stories of Community Engagement”
The South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative has just launched Beat TB: Stories of Community Engagement, a digital story about Lienkie se Longe, a Wellcome Trust funded engagement program which took TB messages to the Cape Winelands community during 2016. The initiative which was launched as part of its 2017 World TB Day Program, narrates the experiences of various people who were involved with the production and performance of Lienkie se Longe drama production.
The digital story features Dr Michele Tameris, (Project Initiator), Dr Veronica Baxter (UCT Drama School), Amber Abrams, Ashley Seconds Melanie Jakobs and Marlene Scheepers who performed in the play.
The play was developed in 2015, and was performed at various clinics and community centres in the Cape Winelands and highlighted at the 2016 Worcester Easter Basaar. The drama was performed by actors drawn from the Mothertongue Project and the Zwelethemba community in Worcester. The drama is highly visual, with costumes and props, catchy songs and lots of movement.
We estimate that the drama reached close to 17 000 (1 275 audience & 15 000 radio & print media) people over a period of six months.
